Ever heard of Moon Milk? It’s awesome sauce, buddy. It has its roots in Ayurvedic traditions which emphasizes the mind-body connection. It’s calming, soothing and relaxing, and promotes a restful sleep cycle. It can help balance hormones, and alleviate stress. It also supports the immune system. Even though it’s great to drink about an hour before bedtime, if you don’t simmer it too long, it won’t knock you out completely. That way you can also drink it during the day, if you’re feeling particularly stressed. I have used this in that “going crazy” moment and the ashwagandha in it works to quell the fight or flight mode that your adrenals are overthinking without making it so that you can’t keep your eyes open. The turmeric helps to relax muscles, ease inflammation, and acts as an analgesic. It’s also recommended for those who are feeling the effects of having been “glutened”. It’s good for curbing cravings too!
Keep in mind that the longer you simmer it the stronger the herbal properties of the Moon Milk will become. That simmering is what makes it great for help you sleep. Along with Turmeric, Ashwagandha, you’ll also find Cinnamon, Cardamom, Nutmeg, and a bit of collagen (protein) in it for good measure to help stabilize blood sugar. Added to that is some Granulated Monkfruit which is what keeps it sugar-free. However, I confess it’s not too sweet, so if you prefer it to be sweeter just add a packet of Truvia to keep it sugar-free or add a little honey.
And you’re not confined just to having this just as a warm brew. I’ve whirled it up in a blender and put it over ice too! Especially nice in the warm, summer months. Just add a teaspoon to a cup of almond milk (or whatever you prefer) and you’re good to go.
